The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020 has seen an unprecedented and unforeseeable sequence of events and consequences unfold. Large conferences and conventions became impossible. Most unfortunately, SIES 2020 had to be hastily cancelled. The team at SIES received a tremendous outpouring of support for which we remain very grateful. Although the conference did not proceed, an enormous amount of backroom work was necessary to undo the multiple layers of advance planning and upfront expenditure.
We were hoping to return in March 2021, bigger and brighter than ever, but it has now become apparent that major conferences will not proceed on a face to face basis for the majority of 2021 and potentially beyond. To continue our commitment to the dissemination of high-quality GI endoscopy, the Westmead endoscopy team and SIES will host a series of online educational webinars, addressing the critical topics at the cutting edge of endoscopic practice throughout 2020. We remain very grateful to our industry partners for their generous support. More details will follow.
Undoubtedly, web-based education will have an ongoing role, but we at SIES believe nothing can truly replace the interactive format and educational impact of renowned experts demonstrating best practice and problem-solving in real-time. The social interaction, networking, and collegial atmosphere of SIES will soon be back. We are already planning for March 2022.
Please mark your diaries for SIES 2022 – Wednesday 16 – Friday 18 March.
